ReRunBriz is one product line (running tours) of a Queensland coaching and activity-for-health business named ReRunMe, established in 2020.

To provide educational and entertaining guided sightrunning tours for those in or visiting Brisbane, so that they can better understand and orient to the city while obtaining cardiovascular health benefits.

ReRunBriz Tours is reflective of Michael's experiences on many guided tours (by foot and vehicle) in South America and Europe. Those experiences reinforced a few things about being in a new or unfamiliar city:

  • Exploring a city on foot to get a sense of place, people, history and character cannot be beaten.
  • Walking a city without a guide is fun, but having a guide really makes a huge difference to your experience.
  • One can work out where to go, but not fully understand what one is seeing or passing on the journey without a guide.
  • Walking tours are awesome, but range and variety can be extended if you move a bit faster and run.
  • Sightrunning as a tour option might sound unfamiliar, but they are already found in many cities worldwide.

Upon returning to Brisbane in 2019 after a year of travel overseas, he noted Brisbane did not have any established running tours. What also had become evident, was that population inactivity trends continued to worsen worldwide. Travel should not mean more sitting - it should mean variety in activity and the incorporation of exercise. Organised local opportunities to provide cardiovascular exercise for city travellers should be abundant. (ParkRun is a great example of this.)

Hence, investigations and preparations were made to establish a running tour that focused on the city of Brisbane itself - the people, places, history and character. ReRunBriz Tours involve running - primarily so that we can see more and literally cover more ground. The education and entertainment aspects provide an excellent distraction to physical exertion, we might add!

Your sightrunning guide is owner and operator Michael Jackson - a well travelled and experienced educator and distance runner from Queensland. He has worked in primary education (QLD) and hospital-based physical rehabilitation (Colorado), and currently works in the disability education and advocacy space. He loves a good city tour on foot and once cycled the lower half of the Bicentennial National Trail (BNT) solo. (Sorry - dog not included on tours!)

Michael is a parent and teacher, has a Blue Card, and is a QLD Justice of the Peace - Qualified. He's also on Strava, and based in Springfield.

  • Those who are in good health, are active, and who engage in vigorous exercise (dynamic movements/running, continuously for more than an hour, more than once a week), should find this run tour well within their capabilities. For example - someone playing club or social soccer, netball or hockey a few times a week fits this profile - they may not 'go for a run' but their sport involves running and bursts of intensity.

The run on this tour is casual – it includes frequent (every several hundred metres) brief (20 sec to 1 min) stops, where you can catch your breath and/or take photos. We anticipate moving at a pace of around 6:30 - 7 min/km (10:30-11:15min/mile) this always being responsive to how everyone is feeling, and have about 20+ minutes worth of stoppage time. This pace is set to be novice-intermediate based on marathon average times across age groups (even though we run less than 1/4 that distance).

If the group declares a faster average pace, we can speed things up a bit, but not likely under 5min/km (8min/mile) - primarily due to the environments we move through and the shared paths used.

Social runners and competitive runners would find this tour comparable to an easy mid-long run. Athletes will be given opportunities for additional exertion (upon request) during the tour.

Before purchasing a ticket for this tour every participant is required to review the PSS (pre-exercise screening system) tools found and explained here. Please take the time to review the PSS tool and consider your health, as you have to declare that you have done this when buying a ticket.

At this time the minimum tour group size is one person (ticket holder).

The maximum group size on any scheduled tour or private corporate tour is twenty (20) people with tickets. School, youth and travelling teams groups are limited to 32, which must include two supervising adults.

You're not paying to go for a run. Running is simply the mode of transport!

As for most guided tours, you purchase a ticket which contributes to covering the cost of:

    • Tour and business overheads (things like insurance, web maintenance, advertising)
    • Guide's time, skills and other expertise
    • Operator's topic research, tour planning and design, and information curation
    • Equipment required to deliver the tour
    • Additional materials and information provided
    • Entertainment and education

**See event details and/or your ticket for your meeting point.**

The tours START and FINISH at either:

Anzac Square in the Brisbane CBD, at the Boer War Horseman statue. Anzac Square is a few minutes walk from the low end of the Queen St Mall, and is located directly in front of Central Station. (The image at the top of this page is of Anzac Square from the high end.) 27°28'00.2"S 153°01'36.7"E

    OR

SouthBank Plaza in South Brisbane, on the river side of the plaza next to the concrete netted stone sculptures. 27°28'36.5"S 153°01'19.1"E

All tours take place on foot, only within the inner Brisbane area (Brisbane City, Spring Hill, South Brisbane, Kangaroo Point, West End, Fortitude Valley, New Farm) in proximity to the South Brisbane Reach.

NOTE: Private tours and School Youth Tavelling Teams tours have flexible starting points - see request form for for more details.

Scheduled tours have a set date and start time. The tour guide will be present and the tour will occur if there has been at least one online booking made. If no prior bookings are made then the tour guide will not be at the start. It is best to book online by the evening before the tour date to avoid disappointment. If the tour guide is at the start, they can explain how to buy a ticket - make sure you have a smartphone and a card payment method. Take a moment to review and Be Prepared.

Children, youths, or students under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian over the age of 18 accompanying them on a standard tour. Those accompanying minors are to supervise and account for their minors at all times during the tour.

School, Youth and Travelling Team tours have a minimum participant age of 12 years, with a 1:10 maximum supervision ratio supported by Group Leaders and any adults accompanying the group.

Every person on the tour must have a ticket, must be on foot, and must follow the guide's instructions. Read more about preparedness on our Be Prepared page.

It is not likely that a child under age 12 will find the running time/distance required on this tour to be 'easy', unless they have a high habitual level of sport activity.

Yes! Families are welcome to join this tour. Every family member must review the screening tools (they are age appropriate) and have a ticket. Because there are a few places with stairs/steps, wheeled child transport is not permitted.

It is unlikely that a child under age 12 will find the running time/distance required on this tour to be easy.

RISKS: We minimise the risks in places visited on the tour by using designated road crossings, staying on paths suitable for pedestrians, and using formation patterns to minimise contact with other path users (cyclists!). We perform a few identification tasks prior to starting to enable the group to stick together and keep an eye out for each other. On occasions we are next to or over the Brisbane River, without any reason to be in it. Risks are summarised in the Risk Management Analysis Table.

CRIME: This tour takes place during daylight hours in public areas where there is a known security presence. Being in a group that is on the move and not carrying valuables greatly reduces the risk of a crime occurring. A further advantage of running is that you are rarely in one place long enough to be susceptible to crime.

The crime rate in any city needs to be considered when visiting. Compared to other cities on a safety index, Brisbane is equivalent to Sydney, Beijing, Vadodara, Shanghai, Oslo, Calgary, Cork and Boston. (Being familiar with these cities is more helpful than the actual index number.)

CALLING FOR HELP: In Australia the emergency number to call is 000 (Triple Zero). This connects you to an operator who can send the required service to our aid. Australia also has an app called Emergency+ (app link) which enables you to give the operator your exact location.

Doing this tour at the start of your visit is recommended. This tour orients you to places and things to do in the city area, and you can ask the guide about topics that interest you and about navigating the city. In addition, we point out running/walking routes that you might use if your stay is more than a few days and you'd like to exercise a few times while in Brisbane.

If you are unable to join a scheduled tour because of the timing of your visit to Brisbane, you have the following option:

    1. Book a private tour. See the bottom section on the Join or Request a Tour page to submit your request. These tours are customisable, with a minimum fee of $129 single, with additional (lesser costs) per runner. Read the request form for more details.

(At this time - due to logistics and schedules - we cannot offer our standard scheduled tours at other times.)

The tour guide is likely to take a group photograph in front of a notable location at some time during the tour. No participant is required to be in such a photograph and so may simply stand aside at the time. These photographs may be used on our social media feeds. You are welcome to ask us to remove a photo we have taken (in which you appear) that appears on our social media.

Should you wish to minimise being photographed by the group, please announce such at the beginning of the tour. If another participant requests to not be photographed, please respectfully do your best to avoid having them in your frame when taking photos.

Participants are encouraged to take photos during the tour. How other participants use and share their photographs after the tour is beyond the control of the tour guide and operator.

What's a GoCard? It is the transit card used on public transport in Brisbane!

No, you will not likely need one as we are always within 1500m (one mile) of the centre of Brisbane.

If you do have to use public transport you *might* be able to use a credit card to tap on/off (this system is being phased in and is not available at all stations/modes).

EARLY: Look around the start location and don't use up too much battery on your phone - maybe put it in battery saver mode for the tour. Do an active light warmup if it is cooler weather.

LATE: If the tour has not started then please call the phone number found in this page's footer! Beyond any ability to rendezvous , we recommend you contact us for a refund via your ticket purchase email.

While it is unlikely that the tour will have a disruptive medical event, the nature of the tour makes this a possibility. Reducing the risk of a medical event is a primary reason why we have the health screening tool and the supervision of minors as a part of our protocol. The guide carries a first aid kit for minor injuries, and individuals can elect to leave the tour for medical reasons (after giving notice to the guide), but a higher level of medical need will likely result in 000 being called.

Depending on the severity of the medical event and the stage of the tour at which the medical event occurs, the tour may be stopped by the guide and may be declared ended. In this instance, the group will be oriented to options to return to the CBD or South Bank.

If during the tour YOU are experiencing a difficulty or sustain an injury it is important to report it to the tour guide immediately.
